Luminor Bank has granted EUR 880,000 in financing to Rēzeknes Siltumtīkli for the reconstruction of a section of the main district heating pipeline in Rēzekne. The project aims to improve the reliability of the district heating system and ensure an uninterrupted heat supply to residential buildings and other facilities in the city.

The financing will support the company’s infrastructure modernisation and significantly reduce heat losses during transmission. The project is planned to be implemented with a guarantee from the development finance institution Altum.

“District heating infrastructure is essential for providing everyday services in a city, which is why its maintenance and timely renewal require long-term investment. At the same time, improving energy efficiency and transitioning to renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly important. Rēzeknes Siltumtīkli has already made significant investments in developing sustainable district heating, and the financing will enable the company to continue modernising its infrastructure and implementing further development projects,” says Ilze Zoltnere, Head of the Corporate Department at Luminor Bank in Latvia.

The company’s investment policy focuses on increasing the share of renewable energy sources and improving energy management in line with the European Union’s sustainability objectives. The district heating system currently relies primarily on biomass, with heat supplied to consumers in Rēzekne by three biomass-fired boiler houses and other biomass-based heat producers. The woodchip boiler house built with Altum support provides greater flexibility in heat production, allowing the choice between woodchips and natural gas depending on market conditions.

“The reconstruction of the main district heating pipeline on Kosmonautu Street in Rēzekne will restore an important section of the city’s heating infrastructure and improve its technical condition. The reconstruction is expected to reduce heat losses during transmission and improve the reliability of the system. We are also continuing to improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy sources to develop a more efficient and resilient district heating system in the long term,” says Andis Dābols, Member of the Management Board of Rēzeknes Siltumtīkli.

The company systematically monitors and improves its energy efficiency. In 2025, it successfully completed recertification under the international ISO 50001:2018 energy management standard, demonstrating compliance with high industry standards.
